Technology and Software Needed for School Wiki
Software
Benefits for PBWiki include a user friendly format that allows the user to design a wiki page as easily as they can type a word processing document. It has an unlimited number of pages to create, and storage space to upload information. However it does not allow for unique users to edit the Wiki, it has one password for editing the entire Wiki. MediaWiki allows users to have unique log-ins, and uses the same format and layout as well known wikis such as Wikipedia. However, the editing format is less user-friendly-looking, and may put off some of the teachers from wanting to use it. If all users are required to include a unique user identity when they update the Wiki, I believe that PBWiki has a better chance of appealling to the wide range of technology skills of both staff and students.
Hardware
- Computers for every classroom (with all accessories) - minimum 2 per classroom
- Computer lab with 20 computers, with a SmartBoard for teaching.
- High speed internet for all computers
